If you’re ever in the Northeast corner of Connecticut you need to check out Heirloom Food Company in Danielson. It’s a “can’t miss” for vegans and omnivores alike.

They have an impressive menu and everything is fresh and healthy. I’ve tried some of the smoothies and a couple of their sandwiches but the thing that brings me back over and over again is their Veggie Rueben with marinated organic cabbage, carrots and onions along with their fresh, organic veggies and a sauce to die for. Recently a friend suggested that I request the addition of their tempeh bacon and it brought it to a whole new level of awesomeness. Be sure to specify vegan cheese but if you forget, they’re really good about asking.

Pro-tip: they’re closed on Sundays and Mondays so plan accordingly. I’m usually in the area on Sundays and purposely switch up the routine just so I can grab lunch at this amazing restaurant.
